TaxCycle Review (2026): the tax software I switched to
TaxCycle is Canadian professional tax software for accountants, bookkeepers, and tax preparers, covering T1, T2, T3, and every slip. I run it in my own practice after years on ProFile and Taxprep. Here is what it costs, where it beats the incumbents, and where it still falls short.

Firms doing personal, corporate, and trust returns
TaxCycle publishes its pricing openly, unlike Taxprep’s quote-only model. Prices shown are the regular list price for one user (a calendar-year licence, not a subscription); extra seats are per user (for the Complete Suite, $756 each). There is no coupon code to hunt for, our link opens the official pricing, including any current sale.
Small and mid-size Canadian firms and solo preparers doing T1, T2, and T3 returns who want modern, fast software with transparent pricing and real Canadian phone support.
Mac-only offices, preparers who need a fully cloud or browser-based tool, or the largest firms already standardized on Taxprep and the CCH iFirm ecosystem.
I switched my own practice to TaxCycle from ProFile and Taxprep. It is faster, its corporate (T2) module is excellent, and the pricing is public and fair. Windows-only is the main trade-off. For most Canadian practices, it is the one I recommend.
Is TaxCycle worth it?
For most Canadian tax practices, yes. TaxCycle is professional tax software for accountants, bookkeepers, and tax preparers, covering T1, T2, T3, and every slip. It is fast, its corporate (T2) module is genuinely strong, and it carries client files forward from ProFile, Taxprep, Cantax, and DT Max. Pricing is public and module-based: the TaxCycle T1 module is $618, the Tax Basics bundle (T1 and T2) is $1,680, and the Complete Tax Suite is $2,800 for one user (a calendar-year licence, not a subscription). TaxCycle is currently running its lowest-price-of-the-year sale, which brings the Complete Suite to $2,625. The honest caveats are that it is Windows-only with no Mac or browser version, and the full suite is a real annual investment. TaxCycle is owned by Xero and there is no coupon code. I run it in my own practice after years on ProFile and Taxprep.
The features that make TaxCycle worth it
Everything a Canadian tax practice needs to prepare, review, and EFILE personal, corporate, and trust returns at volume, without fighting the software.
Every CRA and Revenu Quebec form for personal, corporate, and trust returns, plus T4, T5, T5013, and the rest of the slips.
Imports T1/TP1, T2/CO-17, T3, and FX files from ProFile, Taxprep, Cantax, and DT Max, so switching mid-career is painless.
AutoFill My Return pulls CRA data and SlipSync matches slips across a family group, cutting manual entry and transposition errors.
Form-driven T2 data entry with GIFI, schedules, and CRA diagnostics that tie to filing expectations, not a bolt-on afterthought.
Send returns for secure electronic signature and approval with a full audit trail, instead of chasing paper or email.
Scan and organize client source documents into a bookmarked PDF binder that links straight to the return.
Batch operations, EFILE, ReFILE, and multi-year files handle high volume from February through the T2 and T3 deadlines.
Track every file, deadline, and EFILE status across the practice, and run batch carry-forward from one place.
Where TaxCycle wins, and where it does not
TaxCycle vs ProFile, Taxprep, and DT Max
All four are CRA-certified and file the same returns. The difference is pricing transparency, support, and how modern the software feels day to day.
Where the incumbents still win: Taxprep is entrenched at Canada’s largest firms and pairs with the CCH iFirm ecosystem, and DT Max’s calculation-first workflow has a loyal following for high-volume T1. For most small and mid-size Canadian practices, TaxCycle is the better modern fit, which is why I moved my own practice over.

Import prior-year files, or convert clients straight from ProFile, Taxprep, Cantax, or DT Max with Client Manager batch carry-forward.
Enter data on the actual forms, pull CRA slips with AutoFill My Return, and let SlipSync match slips across the family group.
Work through the review messages and audit checks until the return is clean and ready to file.
Transmit T1, T2, and T3 returns to CRA and Revenu Quebec directly, with ReFILE available for amendments.
Send the return through TaxFolder for secure electronic signature and client approval, with a full audit trail.
TaxCycle is a Xero company
Xero acquired TaxCycle, and the two connect through the Xero App Store: import GIFI data from Xero into T2 and T5013 returns, and push client billing back to Xero. Your TaxCycle discount is tied to your Xero partner margin, so as you grow your Xero client base and move up partner status (bronze, silver, gold, platinum), your TaxCycle pricing improves too. Every TaxCycle purchase also includes a free Xero partner account. See our Xero guide for the full stack.
How I tested it
This is not a spec-sheet review. I run TaxCycle in my own CPA practice, after years preparing returns on Intuit ProFile and Wolters Kluwer Taxprep. I have carried client files forward, prepared and EFILEd T1, T2, and T3 returns, used AFR and SlipSync through a full season, and sent returns for signature through TaxFolder. The comparisons against ProFile, Taxprep, and DT Max come from hands-on use and current published pricing, verified July 2026.

The modern Canadian tax engine, from a CPA who runs it.
After years on ProFile and Taxprep, I moved my own practice to TaxCycle for its speed, corporate depth, transparent pricing, and genuinely Canadian support. If you prepare T1, T2, and T3 returns at volume, it is the software I recommend.
