Nutritionists, dietitians, naturopaths, health coaches, functional-medicine practitioners and therapists whose revenue is a mix of one-to-one sessions, packages, group programs and courses, mostly online, and mostly paid by the client rather than by an insurer.
Physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage and other appointment-driven clinics that bill extended health insurers directly. Practice Better has no TELUS eClaims; its claims tools are built for US clearinghouses. Those clinics belong on Jane.
For the practitioner it is built for, Practice Better is the most complete tool on the Canadian market: programs, protocols, journaling, telehealth, Fullscript and payments in one place, at a price that starts free and tops out below what a two-practitioner Jane clinic pays. The two honest limits are insurance billing, which is US-shaped, and accounting, where Payments syncs to QuickBooks through a third-party app and Xero users export. Pick it for a program business; pick Jane for a clinic.
Is Practice Better worth it for a Canadian practice?
Yes, if you sell programs, packages and virtual sessions to clients who pay you directly. Practice Better is a Toronto company, bills Canadian practitioners in CAD (Starter $35, Professional $69, Plus $99, Team $155 a month, with a free 3-client Sprout plan), and puts telehealth, journaling, protocols, courses, Fullscript and Stripe-powered payments in one portal. It states PIPEDA and PHIPA compliance. It is not worth it for a clinic that direct-bills Canadian insurers: there is no TELUS eClaims, only superbills and US clearinghouses, so physio, chiro and massage clinics should use Jane App instead.
Who is Practice Better for, and who is it not for?
Practice Better describes itself as a nutrition-focused practice management platform for wellness practitioners, set against Jane's multi-disciplinary clinic system. That is the honest dividing line: it is built around what the client does between appointments, not around the appointment itself.
- Dietitians and nutritionists: food journals from a 600,000-food database with barcode scanning, supplement and lifestyle protocols, and meal plans through the That Clean Life integration.
- Health and wellness coaches: one-to-one sessions plus group programs and courses sold in fixed-date, self-paced, email-only and evergreen formats, with automated client check-ins between sessions.
- Naturopathic doctors and functional-medicine practitioners: protocols, Fullscript supplement plans, Rupa Health and Evexia lab ordering, and wearable data from Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin and Oura.
- Therapists and counsellors who work online and are paid by the client: telehealth on every paid plan, digital intake forms, secure messaging and the client portal, with superbills rather than insurer billing.
- Solo practices that grow into teams: the free Sprout plan, Starter to Plus for one practitioner, then Team for group practices with shared templates and role-based permissions.
- Clinics that direct-bill Canadian insurers: there is no TELUS eClaims, Teleplan or Pacific Blue Cross; claims run through US clearinghouses and superbills. Those clinics belong on Jane. New Jane clinics get one month free by entering LEDGERLOGIC1MO in the Grace code field at signup.

Add GST/HST (and QST or PST where they apply) to your services and packages, then apply for Practice Better Payments so clients can pay by card or bank debit from the portal, and by card or Interac on the reader in person. The first payout waits 7 days, then every 2 to 3 business days.
Load your forms and chart templates, connect Fullscript, and set up the program or package you sell most. Automations can send the intake, reminders and follow-ups on their own.
Sync Google or Apple calendars, and invite clients to the app so journals and wearable data land in their file before the session.
On Plus or Team, the Connector Hub add-on ($49 a month) syncs with QuickBooks or Xero. Otherwise QuickBooks Online users can sync Payments through the Acodei app in the Stripe dashboard, and Xero users export the Payment History report monthly. Either way, keep GST/HST collected separate from program revenue in the ledger.
